Sakhir, Kingdom of Bahrain – 28 April 2024: In the presence of HE Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, the Minister of Tourism, Exhibition World Bahrain, the award-winning “World’s Leading New Exhibition and Convention Centre for 2023,” hosted the “Run for Autism” race for the second consecutive year.
Organised together with Alia Centre for Early Intervention on Saturday, 27th April 2024, the “Run for Autism” event aimed to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and support individuals and families affected by autism within the local community.
Spanning over 105,000 square metres of total indoor space, the sporting event at EWB has been set to be a memorable and impactful occasion, bringing together participants of all ages and abilities for a day of unity, inclusion and advocacy. The event featured a variety of activations including timed runs, family-friendly walks, entertainment, and educational resources about autism.
Open to the public, the event welcomed *** participants, including children with autism, their families and caregivers, who took part in seven categories of competitive races: Boys and girls: 4-6 years – 200M, 7-9 years – 300M, 10-12 years – 400M, 13-15 years – 600M, special needs: 7-13 years – 600M, special needs: +14 years – 800M, and ladies: +16 years – 2KM.
The expansive concourses at EWB were an ideal space for this social gathering with a noble cause, which reflects the venue’s huge potential for hosting large-scale sporting events with hundreds of guests under one roof.
In addition to the races, a storyteller event took place where individuals shared their personal experiences and stories related to autism, which helped promote understanding about autism spectrum disorder.
By hosting this event for the second consecutive time, EWB aims to foster a supportive community environment, support a meaningful cause, and make a positive social impact as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals to be an active and positive contributor to the local community.
